Fashion comes and goes, style is timeless
COCO CHANEL
Back in the dark ages of film photography, when I started my career, we all thought it was terribly clever to double expose images – if you’re not sure what that looked like, think couples’ heads super-imposed onto brandy glasses… yes, it’s just as awful as it sounds. Then came digital photography and… well, things got worse. Since then we’ve seen trends and fads come and go – spot colouring, endless filters, weird colour casts, weird posing, you name it… but good photography is timeless.
I got to thinking about this when moving into my new studio. I opened up a long-hidden album of images from 2008, expecting a cringe fest but, you know what? I still liked a lot of the photographs. Yes, my style as developed over the years, but those photos sill look fresh and full of life and aren’t so very different from the photographs I take today.
